Indian Footballer D Venkatesh dies after collapsing on the field

After the horrific incident of Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba, a similar incident took place when first division footballer D Venkatesh,28 who was playing for Bangalore Mars in a BDFA A Division league match against South Western (SW) Railway, collapsed in the final moments of the game. Due to lack of medical support in the ground, his fellow teammates rushed him to the nearby hospital after hiring an auto-rickshaw where he was announced dead. It was learnt that only ice-packs were available at the ground and add to that, no ambulance was present.

It is worth noticing that Karnataka Football Association(KFA) Chief AR Khaleel is also the vice-president of All India Football Federation. Such a pathetic incident is a shame for the entire nation. A top division football match without proper medical backup is astonishing, perhaps more considering the recent incidents those are taking the rounds of world football. If officials could have done their role whole heartily, perhaps Venkatesh's life could have been saved, just like Fabrice Muamba was given a second chance due to the on-spot facilities.

Indian Football-The Blog conveys its condolences to the family of D.Venkatesh and hopes that they recover from the loss. At the same time, we also hope that the All India Football Federation take emergency steps to avoid any further incidents.
