India (5) 2-2 (4) Cameroon

Cameroon: Makon Thierry(29'), Kingue Mpondo(54')
India's first goal against Cameroon by Gourmangi Singh |
A spirited and gutsy Indian team especially after Sunil Chhetri's equalizer in the second half when he converted from the spot after being scythced down when he latched on to a magnificiant through pass from Mehtab Hussain only to be taken down by Cameroon custodian. That one moment seemed to make India a different unit all together. Passes were flowing, tackles were flying in and at times cameroon looked shocked - the Blue Tigers seemed to have woke up from a deep sleep to immobilize the Indomitable Lions. As the game was streching to full time the visiting team looked more frustated and the Blue Tigers seemed to be on a mission.
Future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.- Eleanor Roosevelt
As the cloud of penalty shootout was starting to cover the high voltage match at the JawaharLal Nehru Stadium, one could not ignore the finals of the last edition of Nehru Cup (2009) when India took down Syria with Subrata Paul being the hero of the grand finale. And it was down to the penalties-the clash of the tournament favourites vs the crowd favourites was hanging on a thin string of penalty shoot-out and the 5th spot kick of Cameroon from Makon Thierry saw the string being teared down by the red and hot Team India. And this is how a new script on the pages of Indian Football was written on the 2nd September 2012 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.
